Raita is an Indian dish made with yogurt and served as side dishes along with the various main course. Raita can be sweet, sour, spicy and fruity made with various kinds of fruits and vegetables. Flavors are added by adding different herbs and spices to it. Raita is mainly served with Biriyani, pulao, and parathas. Yogurt is basically cooling, so Raitas are good for health especially in tropical countries like India.
Here are some mouth-watering recipes of 8 different types of Raitas:-
1 Boondi Ka Raita
Boondi is a Rajasthani snack made of chickpea flour. Small balls are made out of the flour dough and friend in oil. These are known as boondi. These are crispy and golden brown in color. Boondi, when soaked in yogurt, becomes too soft and melts in our mouth. Boondi ka Raita is a north Indian dish served with biriyani or pulao.

Soak the boondi in Luke warm water. They will become soft.
Squeeze these boondis so that the water runs out.
Add these boondis to the yogurt.
Add salt to taste and some chaat masala and top it with mint leaves.

2 Onion- Tomato Raita
To make this Raita we need tomatoes and onions and some green chilies which are always available in our kitchen. This Raita goes well with pulao, biriyani and we can also have it along with tandoori chicken. This is a very easy and tasty way of making Raita, which is also good for health for its nutritive values.
Ingredients – a bowl of yogurt, one onion, one tomato, cumin powder, red chili powder, chaat masala, black pepper powder, salt, coriander leaves.
Add finely chopped onion and tomato.
Add salt, cumin powder, chaat masala and black pepper powder.
Top with coriander leaves.
3 Makhan Raita
Makhana or fox nut is basically a flowering plant from the water lily family. These are white strchy edible seeds. This seed has less saturated fats, cholesterol and sodium and is rich in protein. Makhana Raita is a tasty dish made with roasted makhana seeds and yogurt. This is healthy and keeps our body cool.
Ingredients – a bowl of yogurt, Phool makhana, cumin powder, red chili powder, chaat masala, salt.
Heat frying pan and Phool makhana or fox nut.
Dry roast the phool makhana.
Whisk yogurt and add the roasted makhana and mix well.
Add salt and cumin powder and chaat masala.
4 Jeera Raita
Jeera Raita is a beautifully flavored Raita made with yogurt and cumin. Cumin has a different flavor which is also very refreshing. When mixed with fresh yogurt, it becomes a very tasty dish which is easy to prepare and is healthy at the same time. We can garnish it with coriander leaves.
Ingredients – a bowl of yogurt, cumin seed, salt, sugar, cumin powder, red chili powder, chaat masala, coriander leaves.
Heat frying pan and add oil to it.
Add some cumin seed and sauté.
Take a bowl of yogurt.
Add the fried cumin seeds and mix well.
Add salt according to ones taste.
Add cumin powder, red chili powder, chaat masala.
Garnish with coriander leaves.
5 Fruit Raita
Fruit Raita is a healthy and yummy dip made with fresh yogurt and freshly diced fruits like pomegranate, mango, pineapple, papaya, strawberry, grapes. Yogurt being a rich source of calcium along with different types of fruits is a complete healthy dish which is liked by people of all age group.
Ingredients – a bowl of yogurt, one mango, 5-6 strawberries, ½ pomegranate, salt, sugar, cumin powder, chaat masala.
Cut a mango and some strawberries into cubes.
Add salt and sugar to taste.
Sprinkle some cumin powder and chaat masala.
6 Masala Raita
This is the easiest way of making Raita. We just need some fresh yogurt and whisk it until it turns smooth and creamy and then add up various spices nad mix well. This Raita serves as a side dish with biriyani and can also be served as a dip with snacks or parathas.
Ingredients – a bowl of yogurt, cumin seeds, garlic, cumin powder, red chili powder, chaat masala, salt, mint leaves.
Heat a frying pan and add oil.
Add cumin seeds and sauté.
Add hing and chopped garlic and sauté.
Add this fried mixture to a bowl of yogurt.
Add spices and salt to taste.
Garnish with fresh green mint leaves.
7 Capsicum Raita
Capsicum Raita or Shimla Mirch Raita is an easy and unique recipe of Raita. It is different from ordinary tomato or cucumber Raita. Capsicum adds great crunch and flavor to this Raita and is also prepared quickly with minimal ingredients. We can add red and yellow capsicum to make it look more colorful and exciting.
Ingredients – a bowl of yogurt, mustard seeds, curry leaves, one capsicum, one onion, cumin powder, salt, coriander leaves.
Heat oil in a pan.
Add mustard seeds and fry a little.
When they start popping, add sliced onion and finely chopped curry leaves.
Stir and saute onions for sometime.
Then add chopped green capsicum and sauté.
Mix with the Yogurt.
Add cumin powder and salt to taste.
8 Beetroot Raita
Beetroot has many health benefits and you should definitely eat it every once in a while. It lowers blood pressure, increases stamina and acts as a natural detox. This Raita is a good way of having including beetroot in our diet. This is a very tasty dish and beetroot adds pink color to the yogurt which looks beautiful.
Ingredients – a bowl of yogurt, one beetroot, cumin powder, red chili powder, salt, mint leaves.
Take fresh yogurt in a bowl.
Add red chili powder and roasted cumin powder.
Chop beetroots and boil them.
Now add steamed beetroots.
